Features

• Calculators — UK Income Tax (salary, other income, savings and dividends with correct band stacking, the Personal Allowance taper, Class 1 NIC, and marginal rate) and Capital Gains Tax (annual exempt amount, basic/higher-rate split, losses).
• Decision tools — an IR35 status indicator, a “Do I need to file a tax return?” Self Assessment check, and an “Is my side hustle taxable?” check. Each cites gov.uk, links to the relevant official HMRC checker, and exports a PDF.
• Updates — a live feed of HMRC and HM Treasury content from gov.uk; star items to save them for later, available offline.
• Deadlines — key UK filing and payment dates with countdowns and direct gov.uk links.

Privacy

The figures you enter never leave your device — no accounts, no tracking, and no servers of our own. Released versions include anonymous crash diagnostics (via Sentry) only, configured so that crash reports do not include your IP address, screenshots, on-screen content, or the figures you enter.

FAQ

Is this tax advice? No — TaxUpdates is informational only. Calculations and tool results are indicative and based on the information you enter. Verify against HMRC guidance and consult a qualified adviser for any material decision.

Which tax year and jurisdiction does it cover? The calculators use the 2026/27 UK tax year (6 April 2026 – 5 April 2027), for the rest of the UK (England, Wales and Northern Ireland). Scottish income tax bands are not yet included. The Self Assessment and side-hustle checks relate to the most recently ended tax year (the return due by 31 January 2027).

Where does the Updates feed come from? Directly from gov.uk’s public Search API (HMRC and HM Treasury), fetched on your device.

I found a calculation that looks wrong. Please email the inputs and what you expected — we take accuracy seriously and will investigate.
